Launching a Juggernaut into America

The true history of Kawasaki dates back to the late 1800s. At that time, they only made ships and parts. To this day, Kawasaki Heavy Industries continues to be highly successful with a much broader range of equipment.

It wasn’t until the mid-1960s that a newer division of the company, Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation, expanded into America. Starting in an old meat warehouse in Chicago, the first years of their new venture were spent developing Kawasaki models that would push the standards of the time. They quickly became a hit in the western market, giving the company the firm foot in the door to do what they had planned next.
 

Exploring New Territory

In 1969, Kawasaki released the Mach III, an unmatched, ultimate superbike. In 1973, the Z1 further cemented its reputation as the premier superbike manufacturer, featuring the most powerful four-cylinder, four-stroke engine ever built. The success of these models opened new doors for the company and they were able to offer better customer service and products. 

Other Developments

Kawasaki powersports vehicles expanded into other areas of the market over the next few decades. They launched their first water ready machine in 1973 and their first four-wheel off-road vehicle in 1985.
