Remember the acronym ATTGATT, which stands for “all the gear all the time.” Make protecting yourself the highest priority when riding your motorcycle. When you're on your bike, accidents can happen, and motorcycle protective equipment will help keep you safe. Don't skimp when it comes to riding gear. Helmets

Helmets are an important part of your gear since they protect your head from injury by absorbing the impact from forces during a collision. All helmets that are approved for street motorcycling have a minimum DOT rating. The sticker will be present on the helmet. Helmets have a five-year lifespan. They are rated for only one impact.

Jackets

A jacket designed for motorcycle riding is another important part of your gear. These jackets are different from ones designed for regular apparel. A motorcycle jacket has doubled-up stitches to increase its durability. Apparel makers also add impact-absorbing materials at vital points, like the elbows and shoulders, to absorb impact in a crash.

Make sure this part of your riding gear fits snugly but not too tight. The jacket should be comfortable, and you should have a free range of movement in it.

Some jackets are designed for a specific type of weather. Cold-weather gear is less breathable and doesn't offer as much airflow, while gear designed for warmer weather may have vents that allow the coat to breathe, keeping you cooler while you ride.

Boots

It's best to always ride in boots designed for motorcycle riding. Semi-rigid, above-the-ankle boots help to protect your ankles. They're also slip-resistant so that you have good traction on slippery roads or oily surfaces.

You can tell how effective a piece of footwear will be at protecting your feet in the event of a crash by twisting it in your hands. If it twists easily, then that's what will happen to your foot when you crash. If it's rigid and resistant to twisting, then it probably offers decent protection for your feet.

Gloves

If a crash does occur, your first instinct may be to try and catch yourself with your hands. Motorcycle gloves will save your hands from nasty abrasions in the event of an accident.

Gloves should fit snugly but still allow a wide range of motion for your fingers. Your wrist should be able to move freely.
