Winch

One of the most versatile accessories you can upgrade your UTV with is a winch. A winch can be handy for dragging heavy items, pulling other vehicles out of the mud or other sticky situations, or even pulling your UTV out itself! The winch is also great for the hunter who wants to drag their game to a better area for dressing. These come in both synthetic and wire options and need to match the power of your UTV to avoid draining the battery, so make sure you know your machine before you buy.

Enclosed Cab

The open-air seating that most UTVs come with can be great for feeling the wind in your hair, but during the winter or summer months it can be oppressive. And we won’t even begin to go into the bugs, pebbles, and mud that can find their way to your face without full coverings. Adding a windshield can help a lot, but a fully-enclosed cab gives you options for climate control as well and boosts the comfort considerably. If your UTV has seating exposed to the elements, an upgrade kit is easy to find and install.

LED Lights

Visibility is a vital aspect of safe riding. You need to see the trail ahead of you and any obstacles on it—and without a trail, it becomes even more important to know what’s coming. LED lights provide the brightest lighting available and last an impressively long time, making them cost-effective in the extreme. You can add LED light bars to your UTV with little difficulty, and some have headlights that can be upgraded to LEDs. Just stay mindful of your battery power. More lighting means more drain on your battery.

GPS

Even on a well-defined trail, it can be pretty easy to get turned around. There are rarely any road-signs or other man-made structures to use as landmarks, and trees can blend together fairly easily. A GPS will help you to keep track of where you are and can help you navigate to where you’re going.

You can, of course, just use your phone’s system, but installing a GPS to your UTV directly is a better option. Navigation apps drain phone batteries quickly and you might need it for emergency situations, and many rely too heavily on coverage that just isn’t there in the great outdoors. A GPS installed to your vehicle offers reliable, consistent guidance.

Skid Plate

More adventurous riders will want to invest in a skid plate. These handy upgrades cover the underside of your vehicle and protect its working parts from any bumps or debris that might otherwise damage them. Going over bumpy and uneven terrain is much safer with a skid plate, and they allow you to tackle obstacles you might otherwise worry about.

Emergency Supplies

UTVs can pack a lot of power into a small frame, and many are destined to navigate tough and even unpredictable terrain. Dangerous situations can happen, and when they do, you’ll want to be prepared. Pack along a tool kit in case anything goes wrong with your vehicle itself, and a first aid kit for any injuries you might sustain along the way.
