Tips for Riding Your ATV in Cold Weather
Riding an ATV through the ice and snow isn’t as easy as driving it through mud or sand. However, with a little prep and the right accessories, a winter ATV ride can be a lot of fun. For tips on how to ride an ATV through the winter weather, be sure to read our helpful article below.
Cold-Weather Riding Gear
If you don't already own a pair of ATV riding gloves, you’ll want to be sure to purchase some before you hit any snowy trails this winter. Along with your gloves, you’ll want to grab a set of wool thermals and a waterproof coat to keep you warm and dry during your ride. Be sure to layer up before hitting the trails, and pay close attention to extremities, like fingers, toes, and your nose, as you drive.
Engine and Tire Care
Before you make plans to take your ATV on a winter ride, you’ll need to make sure your engine is ready to handle those cold temperatures. Start by adding a fuel stabilizer to the tank, and giving your ATV a quick oil change. You’ll also need to check that your antifreeze reservoir is full and install a set of snow chains on your tires. If you’re not a fan of snow chains, snow tires are also a great option for helping you find traction on slick winter trails.
ATV Accessories
If you plan on riding in the cold and snow on a regular basis, it might be wise to invest in a few cold-weather accessories. Accessories such as heated grips and seat-warmers can be extremely helpful on long winter rides. Other customizations, such as a snow plow attachment or ATV track kit can make riding through deep snow a breeze.
