Helpful Tips on Learning to Ride a Go-Kart
If you’re new to the go-kart scene, you may have a bit of trouble figuring out all of the new bells and whistles on your machine. However, there’s no need to worry! While it will take some practice, getting the hang of your go-kart’s controls is a pretty easy process. Just read through our helpful tips below, and you’ll be hitting your local racing track in no time at all.
Rider Position
Similar to dirt bikes and ATVs, go-karts have a unique rider position meant to make navigating your kart more efficient. This position typically consists of your knees bent outward, your back straight, and your hands at the quarter-to-three position on the steering wheel. To achieve this, you’ll need to place your feet near the pedals and scoot your seat forward until you can easily reach the steering wheel and pedals with no difficulty or discomfort.
Practicing
If you’ve never ridden a go-kart before, you may assume it’s a bit like driving a car or even a four-wheeler. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. These unique vehicles require very different skills, and it’s important to practice them regularly in order to avoid a crash. Before you hit your nearest raceway, we encourage you to take things slowly and practice driving in straight lines to gauge the speed and acceleration of your cart. Once you’ve gotten a bit more experience under your belt, you can try your hand at turning and using your brakes to make sharper turns.
